Your half day canoeing adventure starts at Wyuna on the Lower Gouburn River National Park which is 25-km east of Echuca.

The river in this region is ideal for canoeing with only canoes and some local fishermen to be seen.

The pristine red gum forest supports a wide variety of water and forest birds, and if you’re really lucky you may get a glimpse of a shy platypus or two.Wyuna is just over two hours due north from Melbourne.

We contact you, following your booking, and arrange times and meeting places. On the day, we meet on the Murray Valley Highway then you follow us to Yambuna Bridge where your vehicle is safely parked.

We then will drive you upstream the appropriate distance and fit you with safety vests and dry bags for cameras and other personal items and you paddle off downstream to the bridge.

• The minimum is two (2) however we can cater for larger groups.
• Numbers on the day: This experience is for 2 people. There may be others on the trip with you.
• Session length: This experience is available 7 days a week, all year round (except Christmas Day). The weekends and public holidays are particularly busy, so please book in advance to avoid disappointment. The half day tour usually starts at 10am and concludes at about 2pm.

The full day canoeing safari starts at Wyuna on the Lower Goulburn River – some 25-km west of Echuca on the Murray Valley Highway (B400).

Wyuna is just over two hours due north from Melbourne. Contact will be made with you, after booking, to arrange times, where to meet as well as finding out about any special dietary requirements.

We meet you on the day and then you follow us to Yambuna Bridge where your vehicle is safely parked for the day.

We then drive you up stream the appropriate distance where you will be fitted with approved safety vests, dry bags for you personal items and an esky with your picnic lunch which is specially prepared by River Country Adventours.

You will find plenty of good safe sandbars along the way to enjoy lunch with all the birds in a pristine environment.

Later in the day you will arrive at Yambuna Bridge, where you car is parked and you can head off home after your fantastic day on the beautiful Goulburn River.

Overview

Day 1. Your destination is Wyuna which is just over 2-hours due north from Melbourne on the Murray Valley Highway situated 32 km east from Echuca.

Our guides will escort you to your campsite which will be furnished with an industrial portable toilet. Vehicles are safely parked here.After setting up the tents and the camp, the group will be driven to Coy’s Bridge from where you will paddle downstream to your campsite which will have a huge marker on the beach. Paddling time around 3.5 hours.

Day 2. The day is taken up paddling on to Yambuna Bridge some 3-4 hours away. Here you will be met by our guides and driven back to the camp, where you can stay another night or just pack up and head for home.

From the Aboriginal word meaning ‘meeting of the water’, Echuca is one of Victoria’s oldest river towns. At one time Echuca was the state’s most substantial inland river port.

Paddle steamers traded along the Murray and Darling Rivers almost as far as the Queensland border and brought their cargoes of wool to Echuca for transport to the Port of Melbourne, with much of the wool going for export from Melbourne to London.

It is this aspect of its history that has become the basis for the town’s reputation as a tourism centre, particularly since the restoration of the old port area began in 1973. Paddle steamers again travel the local waters, albeit for purely recreational and nostalgic purposes.

Moreover, the survival of many original buildings has enabled a meaningful renovation of the old streetscape and the wharf now offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience a working steam port.

Visitors can take a relaxing one hour cruise aboard one of the authentic paddle steamers or a leisurely one hour stroll on a self guided tour of the Echuca Wharf or simply wander around the Port all day.
